Will Tregoning
Unharm CEO
Will Tregoning came to drug law reform from a background in social policy research, communications consultancy and health equity program management. He completed a Bachelor of Arts and a PhD in Cultural Studies at the University of Sydney before beginning a career as a research and evaluation consultant to Australian government departments and agencies, focussing on alcohol and other drugs. He co-founded Unharm and is also co-founder of drug checking organisation The Loop Australia.
Sam Kidd
Campaigns Director
Sam Kidd is an experienced political campaigner who specialises in digital communications, audience analytics and supporter engagement. He has worked at GetUp! and the United Workers Union across a wide range of campaigns and issue areas. He is responsible for the development and implementation of Unharm’s campaign strategies.
Catharine Lumby
Board chairperson
Catharine Lumby is a Professor of Media at Sydney University who has worked with organisations as diverse as Google Australia, the National Rugby League, Channel 10, the Australian Communication and Media Authority and the Australian Sports Commission. She advises the public and private sector on cultural diversity and schools and universities on preventing bullying, harassment and managing social media. Catharine is the author and co-author of six books and writes a regular column for The Guardian.
Kathirithamby Sivasankar
Non-executive director, Treasurer
Kathirithamby Sivasankar is a Chartered Accountant and CPA with global finance and risk management experience. In addition to volunteer work supporting disadvantaged youth to reach their potential, Siva is a social justice advocate and activist in progressive politics.
Peter Wilson
Non-executive director
Peter Wilson is an investment banker and philanthropist from Sydney. He advises Australian corporations and governments on governance and oversight, mergers and acquisitions and key strategic initiatives, particularly in financial services. His current and former not-for-profit board roles span the arts, law reform and social justice, health and education over more than two decades. He believes passionately that the sensible reforms Unharm advocates in relation to recreational drugs will improve outcomes, reduce harm, improve fairness and lower costs across all stakeholders.
Mark Hancock
Non-executive director, Secretary
Mark Hancock has served as CEO of several successful Australian companies and a General Manager of the NSW Legal Aid Commission. He has also worked for various NSW Government Departments, including the Department of Corrective Services. Mark is a member of The Australian Institute of Company Directors and was, until December 2021, a Fellow of the Australian Society of Certified Practising Accountants. Having experienced the criminal justice system from both sides as a result of his own drug dependence, Mark has seen the harm that the current laws, policies and systems do to people, especially those in the greatest need.
Sam Lee
Non-executive director
Samantha Lee is a senior solicitor at Redfern Legal Centre within the police accountability practice. She has led several law reform campaigns and strategic litigation cases including: COVID fines, strip search law and children and fines. Samantha worked for many years as a lawyer at Legal Aid NSW and a policy advisor within the Criminal Law Division at the NSW Attorney-General’s. For over ten years, Samantha was the Director and then Chair of Gun Control Australia, advocating for strong gun laws and national compliance with the 1996 Port Arthur Agreement.
Sam Biondo
Non-executive director
Sam Biondo was Executive Officer of the Victorian Alcohol and Drug Association for 16 years until July 2023. VAADA is the peak organisation representing AOD service providers in Victoria. Sam was previously employed by Fitzroy Legal Service for 18 years and has an academic background in education, social work and criminology. He has a keen interest in social justice, open and transparent systems of institutional accountability and has been involved on a number of community sector boards, reference committees and NGOs.
Peter Stahel
Non-executive director
Peter Stahel is a public affairs consultant and political adviser. He is the managing director and co-owner of the social research and strategy group of companies Essential Research and Communications. Peter advises organisations across a wide range of sectors on policy change campaigns using a research-based strategy methodology. His long-standing interest in harm reduction began in observing people close to him suffer terribly from addiction issues and the significant policy and system failures that contributed.
Martin Green
Non-executive director
Martin has been a director and publisher at Sydney-based social purpose book publisher Pantera Press for 15 years, investing in the next generation of Australian reading and writing, and the Pantera Press Foundation, which focuses primarily on literacy programs for marginalised youth. He is also a director of Red Room Poetry and music and arts charity Heaps Decent, where he is also a program volunteer, as well as Co-Chair of Philanthropy Australia’s New Generation of Giving program.
